Quick project - Car seat strap covers
If your kids are anything like mine, they don't like sitting in the H-style seat harness, after about 18 months. My daughter is constantly complaining that the straps are scratchy, or they hurt her neck. Well, here is the perfect 30 minute project - something quick and easy, uses scraps of fabric, and will make car travel much more pleasant for everyone!

Car seat harness strap covers
Materials -
-4 pieces of fabric, approx 20cm x 15cm each (or a single fat quarter);
2 pieces of padded fusible interfacing "pellon" (such as Vilene H630), each approx 20cm x 15cm;
Approx 40cm of hook & loop velcro.
Cotton thread
Method -
1. Measure the straps of the car harness, deciding how long to make each cover. (If you have the H style harness, measure up from the top of the cross bar. Cut your 4 pieces of fabric, and 2 pieces of pellon, to the length of strap that you want to cover.
2. Iron the fusible padded pellon on to 2 pieces of the fabric, following manufacturer's instructions.
3. Place 1 piece of padded fabric, and 1 piece of un-padded fabric, right sides together. Sew together, using a 1/4" seam. Start sewing in the middle of one of the long sides of the fabric, sew around the rectangle shape, and stop sewing approx 10cm (4") short of where you started - so there is a gap in the seam.
4. Clip across the 4 corners, making sure to not cut into the line of sewing. Then turn the whole panel right side out, pulling it through the gap in the seam.
5. Smooth panel down, folding the edges into the gap. Top stitch around the whole rectangle, closing the seam gap in the process.
6. Cut the hook and loop to fit down the length of your panel. Pull the 2 pieces (hook, and loop) apart. Sew the hook strip on to the right side of the panel, approx 1/4" in from the edge.
7. Turn the panel over and sew the loop strip to the right side of the panel, approx 1/4" in from the edge. When you fold the panel into thirds, lengthwise, you should be able to stick the velcro strips together, to fasten the whole thing into a long tube.
8. Repeat steps 3 to 7, to make 2 long tubes that can be opened and shut with the velcro strip.
Apply to your child's car seat and watch the smiles!
